Rebuilding of the old kindergarteｎ. The site is on the hill, where there are lots of trees, some are grown up to 20 meters high.
Cherry trees are in full bloom beautifully in spring when entrance ceremony is held.
Not to cut down grown trees , new buildings layout is planned to trace old existed buildings. Utilizing about a half storey level difference on site, two- storied building is placed on lower level and single-storied building on higher level half way up . Those three levels are connected by slopes.
On the ground floor of the two- storied building there are middle-year classes , on the first floor library , playroom and eldest-year classes . A single-storied building in-between , where Admin-block with youngest-year classes , and indoor pool are placed .

Two Music rooms and Multi-purpose room extension, constructed under the playground ,
connected to existing auditorium which is enlarged simultaneously .
Half of the outer wall length of classrooms underground should be opened to air by the building regulations . So, exterior approaching slopes from the ground level , and sloping planted garden are made open above.
By walking down and up the curved slopes, changes of eye level ,and changes of scenery makes one feel a sort of fun .
Curved L-Shaped faculty building which protects from strong wind blowing from the Yoneyama mountain produces,
with straight-shaped existing block , sunlit and intimate courtyard .
Surrounding the courtyard loggia is placed. The loggia is a sort of intermediate space between inside and out. Walls are finished with bright color against grayish weather in winter of this district.
I was surprised to find that these colors are very similar to the townscape of Bologna in Italy where I visited later.

Four- storied building extension to the existing auditorium on the site between existing auditorium and front road
which used to be parking area .
Friend School is one of the oldest high school for girls in Tokyo.
Utilizing the 5.5m difference between the level of the main buildings and front road , under the playground , there is the auditorium from before.
New building includes foyer for the auditorium and multi-purpose room on the basement level as same level as the front road . Library is on the ground floor , as same level as the playground .
On the second floor there are English classes , Two Music rooms and another Multi-purpose room .
All the circulation areas , staircase , loggia , and tunnel are exterior space with the eaves which is called “ In-between space”. When students moves to another classroom , library , or so, they feel wind , sunlight , air , trees and see sky , cloud, trees , and landscapes. published on
